Thursday 4/8 Continued - Last stop is the
National Postal Museum for some hands on
fun. Then it is Union Station for lunch before
heading home.
A few helpful thoughts about the trip if anyone else is considering planning one. Typically the troop used to always go in February, no crowds
but definitely cold, unfortunately cost effective indoor lodging is no longer available at the military installations. With the added security
measures (every building has airport type entry checkpoints) and the need for timed tickets it is necessary to plan the visit during non holiday
time frames. Stay away during major holidays, events and vacation times. Even the outdoor open memorials were too crowded. The lengthly
walks from one attraction to another are not the problem, it's dealing with the down time at the lines waiting to get in and navigating the
crowds at each venue. It severely changes the pace of the trip. The trip becomes rushed and you are constantly dealing with time
management especially if you need to dine at specific times like we did at the Quantico dining hall.
