The Queens Borough Scout Orienteering Event
Orienteering Courses - will be set up and operating from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM (last start at 2:00 PM). Anyone who is interested in just
hiking/running the courses may do so at any time. Participants will go out as a team of 2-3 scouts; they will compete against all other teams
on the same course. The results of scores and times for completed courses will be recorded and posted on the web site by Wednesday,
October 10. If feasible, we will break down the results by rank (Class) as well.
Training Sessions will Start Promptly at 9:00 AM
Training classes - are set up in a round robin format for beginners. Each session will last 30 minutes. We will start promptly at 9:00
and continue through 11:00.

During the 2 1/2 hour block - 11:00 through 13:30,  beginners will hike/run their chosen course and eat lunch.
At 13:30 they will reconvene with their group for the afternoon sessions. These sessions have been planned in the afternoon because
the scouts, having experienced an orienteering course, will then have a much better grasp of the subject matter

Beginners -Past events has shown that over 90% of the participants are beginners. Therefore, to allocate our resources properly and keep
the groups to a manageable size we will insist on maintaining the schedule below. This will allow for a smooth and orderly day for everyone,
participants, leaders and event staff.

Advanced:
The focus and needs should be on subjects # 6, # 7, # 8, and # 9.  The number of participants, requests and manpower will determine the
schedule of structured training sessions. Regardless, resources will be available to coach and train on a informal basis during the morning. Keep
in mind that the advanced scouts should complete more than one course during the day to experience the true distances usually associated with a
true competitive event. In addition to traditional courses the advanced scouts should sample Score-O.
